Xsara central locking problem
« on: February 03, 2009, 01:13:27 am »
Hi all,

I'm new and have found you thanks to another member.

I have a problem with my Xsara hatchback (2002 1.6SX).

When I bought the car about 7 months ago it had a problem with the central locking, it would lock and instantly unlock giving several flashes of the indicators to show which door was open (the guy was ex pug/cit). They repaired this fault before I picked the car up and it was working without any problems.

Then I started having problems...... It would lock/unlock and beep without any indicator flashes........ The problem became worse until I couldn't lock it at all. I then asked several independent garages to have a look, but they advised taking it to the local dealership on the understanding that they would plug the system in and read the fault codes.

I took it to the local dealer and they advised repairing several wires in loom to the door socket. The repairs were made, but the socket is now bypassed (drilled through and wired directly into the door). I picked the car up ?270ish lighter and drove it home to find the problem was exactly the same >:(

I drove it straight back and looked at the paperwork, it looks like they didn't do a diagnostic.

I'm now waiting for a call telling me about new looms etc (lots of cash).

My questions are..............

1.  Do I have any hope of bending their ear over the ?270 as they didn't repair it the first time around? :knuppel2:

2.  If the indicators do not flash after a locking fault is there a more serious problem?

3.  Do I have a chance of solving this problem using the BSI reset?

Cheers for looking and any help would be very nice. :o

I'd say give them one more chance to fix it and advise them if it isn't , you'll go elsewhere to get it sorted and send the bill to them.

ANOTHER UPDATE
------------------

The BSI didn't throw up any indications of what is wrong. They checked over the wiring they "repaired" and it seems to be the coupling between the car and the door (as they wriggled the plug/socket when it locked and it then unlocked).

They haven't charged me any more and have carried out at least 2 days labour on the car, so I can't moan too much.

The options given now are:

1.  Replace the loom and pay almost what the car is worth.
2.  Replace part of the loom with second hand connectors from a scrap yard (they'll fit or I'll fit)
3.  Replace the coupling completely with wires directly from the car into the door (my fix).

I'm inclined to try option 2 first...........anyone know a good Citroen breaker in East Anglia?

Thanks for the advice....

I've chopped a drivers side loom out of a scrapped car at Hainford Hall scrappers, now I've just got to see what happens when I splice it in :-\

Rather pretty localised mushroom cloud?

Nah. Seriously, good luck.

OK.............I'm not angry.............ARRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHH! :tickedoff:

I took the loom from a "W" reg Xsara and the colours / number of pins are different!!!! I'm in just the same predicament :-\

If I could just pull a fuse to kill the central locking so I can use the car :knuppel2:

If anyone knows how I can disable it please let me know.

The wires to the door are all fine now, is there any chance it could be the locking mech itself?

Unplugging each door might be an option. But will this effect the alarm?

Well it's..

1. Bell out and repair the existing loom.

2. Refit and try.

3. Possibly change the door lock itself.

4. Go mad..

I sold my 156 because it started costing me too much. I thought... buy a Xsara ... nice simple car. :idiot2:

Wednesdays update...

I've belled the loom out of the car and strengthened a couple of previous mends I then soldered all of the 22 wires (oh yes in the rain, that was fun).

The car locked and unlocked OK.....

Now I'm not sure what happened but it stopped working, I think it's the hatch loom now as the hatch unlocked itself.

I'll try resetting the body computer tomorrow, if that doesn't work I'll double check my repairs so far and then check the hatch loom.

Please make it stop. :o

if its any consolation mate, my rear wiper doesn't work, the tailgate doesn't lock with the C/L, and my drivers door speaker only works when it chooses to, i'd say thats all down to the bloody looms  >:(  but i CBA to fix it  ;D
