It is all about VOC's this is to do with the solvent content in paints. companys have a limit on how much VOC's they can use/distribute. water based paints have a minimal VOC content so thats why its all moving over to that. and it is a better product. never seen/used water based rattle can but the reason it all washed off is because its water based same way thinners washes off solvent based paints.
it wont dry like solvent based will always stay tacky until laquered. dont hold hairdryer/heatgun too close prob dry in 10-15 mins then give it a coat of laquer. does not matter what u use as long as the water based is dry. dont leave it over night or for too long or it will dry too much the the laquer wont key to it. any more u wanna know just ask. i can paint ur mirrors for a small fee if u have no luck.

Thanks for replying  ;)  I've now got the hang of spraying with a water based aerosol  :idiot2:, i've now taken the mirror covers off, done the blue base coat, let it dry for 6 hours in a sealed cardboard box above the cooker  :D  I've now applied 5 coats of acrylic laquer, wet flatting between each coat of laquer.

I'll be leaving the laquer to fully harden for 6 or so days,  then i'll wet flat the whole mirror covers with 2000 grade paper, then polish them up to look like glass  8)  i'll post a few pictures of the outcome of these second hand mirrors very soon.

Managed to get the original, unused Citroen touch up pens/paint sticks (unopened so I'm not actually sure!) with my new VTS, should I have a crack at some of the stone chips or is it going to look worse? Anyone used these? I was surprised they came with the car!  O0

They're OK as long as you don't go mad with them, or it ends up looking spotty. Do door edges and similar rather than right in the middle of big panels.

I was most surprised that it came with a clear lacquer one as well as the colour, although the box does clearly state that the colour may not match perfectly which is why I'm not rushing in.

i can see on my car where someone has touched up a few little knocks but it doesn't look too clever, the kit comes with primer, colour, and lacquer, and only the right combination of the three will give you a good colour match.

And f the pack is getting a bit old, it'll need a hell of a lot of shaking.

I am a sprayer too, but dont spray cars for a living im an artistic painter and paint fibreglass kiddie rides. We changed to the water based system but were never keen on it so have moved back to a solvent system with LECHLER. Will never be as good as the dupont systym we had before but its not bad. Found with water based bit harder to use for when painting and masking loads of different colours. Water based doesnt rely on being heated it relies on airflow to dry it.

I need to replace the driver side front door and the wheel arch as the previous owner "repaired" the car with a hammer :-(
I was told I could do it with a roller, like a room wall. My mate did it on his A4 bonnet and it looks great. I can't afford a pro job and have no garage. And to make it more interesting I', in Ireland, county Louth. Any pointers?

Could you give me an estimate fto respray a front bumper taken from a 2004 ph2 Xsara ( the one with the spotlights incorporated)

It will require a change of colour  - I could deliver and collect when complete.

Thanx  :)
