Both my wing mirrors could do with respraying in Icelandic Grey - how much would that set me back?

They will need a few deep scratches filling too... Hell - it may be easier to buy two new covers I don't know...
78,000 Miles | Icelandic Grey | Full Koni Sport Suspension Kit | Part Stainless Steel Exhaust | BMC CDA | 4 x Michelen Exalto PE2 195/50/15 | Insurance: ?745 | Tax: ?260!!! | ?70 = 300 Miles - 78000 / 300 * 60 = ?15,600+ of Fuel! | SP30 - 3 PP!

Pete, I've got rust coming through on the front o/s wing... and on various spots on the bonnet... would i be worth buying a good bonnet and wing from a scrappy for respray.. or just get the bodyshop to repair the rust??

definatly buy new/unrusty ones  ;D as the repaired ones the rust will come back through faster than you would want after getting it painted not worth scrimping on tbh

id just find some decent ones down the scrappy tbh mate or try local motor factors they should be able to put you in touch with some aftermarket ones and possibly a man's phone number who would do it on the side the paint work that is  :2funny: :2funny:

The patent panals are not as good as the OEM ones the pressings of the panels and the way they fit are not very good. if u can pick up a good 2nd hand wing and bonnet it will prob be better. u can sort the rust on your wing and bonnet depends how deep its gone. if its just surface rust a good job on it will mean it prob wont come back til u get more stone chips. maybe get some pics uip of the rust. if it helps save a few quid getting new panals

Here's question for you Pete !!

I'm repainting my door mirror covers  :)

I went to my local paint supplier and asked for a 'custom can' of my colour,  he said that only water based paints can now be mixed and solvent ones are no longer to be sold   :uglystupid2: ???.

Well i got my can and it sprays totally sh!t and it isn't dry properly after 2hrs, even with the hairdyer blasting at it  :tickedoff: i've had loads of cans from my supplier in the past and they have always been solvent ones, So this is new to me  :buck2:

I left them over night to dry and when i started to 'wet flat' it with 1200 grade paper in warm soapy water the bloody paint started to come off and i just washed the mirror cover and it all came off  :knuppel2: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Where am i going wrong with this new sort of paint :-[ and what type of laquer do i use ?? is solvent based acrylic laquer still OK to use ????  Or has that got to be water based too  >:(

Any idea's Pete  ;)

well if they cant sell solvent based paints then were back in the stone age... about 90% of the construction industry paint is solvent based...

i smell bullshi't
