Only problem is the software is completely useless without buying the interface lead.

I have just bought the full Lexia-3 interface set incl. 30-pin adapter to pre-OBDII cars. There is also Diagbox ver. 7.04 in this set. It was not cheap, but I got some extra money and it was like now or never. Still waiting for delivery, I'm setting up a spare notebook meanwhile for this purpose.

Make sure it runs XP and has a sufficient screen size. Check the specs, but I think you need a minimum of 900 or so vertical height otherwise it can't display.

Thanks, I didn't know about this screen resolution requirement. I've got a good ol' ThinkPad prepared to work with Lexia and I have to check if it can handle 900px vertical.

I tried it originally on a little Dell 910 and it couldn't display the lowest lines, which unfortunately, is where the control buttons are sited. It doesn't permit screen scrolling to view more.

I see, I think a full size Lenovo should display it correctly. In any case I can always try to plug in an auxiliary monitor if it's up to screen size. If it's about screen resolution I will first try it at 1024x768 and when it fails only then start to worry :)

768 won't cut it in my experience - that's what the Dell was.

It does! You have to adjust a few lines in a .ini file ;)

You may well have to, but mere mortals have problems with joined up thinking.

I read of that solution, but it wouldn't play ball. I spent far too much of my life fart-arsing around with it and ended up getting a S/H HP to run it as a dedicated machine.
Now all I have to do is put up with the inanities of a user-very-unfriendly GUI.

Got it! It's working well at 1280x800px, 15.4" Lenovo ThinkPad R500 XP Sp.3.

I think I need to go through this Russian tutorial first to be able to make any serious use of it... It looks great though, will play some more over the weekend!

use Diag Box then :)

Non-of the OEM tools have user friendly UI.

That's no excuse - that's bad programming.

The GUI is supposed to be a credible link between the operating hardware and the user. If the user ends up tying his brain in knots to untangle lousy translation  of output messages and guess what the corresponding input should be, then the programmer has failed in his job.

Just saying all tools have lousy GUIs isn't an excuse - it means they're barely fit for purpose. If Bill Gates had built Windows on that basis, then he'd have ceased trading 30 years ago.

F*ck the GUI, you have no idea what I went through a quarter ago! :buck2:  ;D

I was toying with Lexia when the car went into energy saving mode. I couldn't switch it off by starting the engine (like it always works in my dad's C5) so I thought it was beacuse of something I had done in Lexia, and it was when I unleashed hell  >:D Somehow I deprogrammed the key (my only one!), the BSI, switched off remote, turned on immobiliser and at that exact moment the battery on ThinkPad got finished and Lexia crashed down hahaha... I was like "Dear Lord, please tell me it hasn't  been all saved..." But life ain't no fairytale. I turned on the key and the car was dead: no lights, no display, engine not starting. :D

I turned the laptop back on and restarted Lexia, somehow reverted all the changes, managed to regain the key and disable the immobiliser. Then I overrode energy saving mode by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes - so it wasn't due to Lexia, but an idiot keeping an ignition on for more than 30 minutes. But why the heck it didn't switch off after I started the engine and even drove in the middle of the night without any lights around the parking?!?

Is there any reliable tutorial on this software? Man! I had to change my pants!
