Don't worry if it's chucking it down - you'll be sat in the dry.

Plug it into the socket in the fusebox by your right knee, turn ignition on and press the tit. Should scan for a few seconds  - up to 20 or 30-ish, then show you the number of faults. Scroll thro' them and write the numbers down. If you get amazingly lucky, it could offer you the option of deleting the faults, but usually you'll need to interfere repair them first before rescan & reset.

Refer to booklet that came with it, or come here for questions. Simples.

hi, i managed to plug the reader in last night and it only came up with one dtc code which was ...p0420...catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank one) i took a look at the cat and it appears to be newish, along with the exhaust system, about a year old i would reckon, anyways i erased the code and reset the engine management light and took it for a run to see if the eml would come back on but after doing about 20 miles all was good still with no eml light showing, could it have been just a blip or do you think my cat is ready to give up the ghost..lol...btw just for your info, the replacement reader they sent me was not the u380 as originaly ordered, the one they sent was the u480, i think its the same but as a few more things you can do with it, but it worked very well and was easy to use.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope it was a blip - that report might indicate the front Lambda sensor was a bit iffy rather than the cat.

OK,you got a U480 out of it - lucky fella.

thanks for all your help phil, and hopefuly that light stays off, but if it dont at least i know what is causing it, is that front lambada sensor attatched to the cat, or is it the one under the bonnet, the reason i ask is i can remember when the light came on, i was doing a steady 60 or so on the motorway but a hr or so before that drove through about 6 to seven inches of water water due to the heavy flooded roads at the time, just wondering if that might have caused the light to come on somehow.

Bank 1 would be the front one, I'm pretty sure - ie right up on the fannymold.

I guess a spray of water thro' the engine onto the Lambda could do that.
Thank your lucky stars it wasn't more - a hydrolocked engine is not a pretty thing.
