picasso annoying rattle. help
« on: May 09, 2012, 08:23:42 am »
hi there, i bought my picasso last year, was a steal really, £300 with 6 months tax and test .0 hdi etc, tidy, first issue was the crank pully, i sorted that, then cat snapped at the joint so replaced that. car was then perfect until i put it in for its new mot last week. it flew through bt now has a real rattle/ vibration coming from the dash area somewhere (sounds deep, not within easy reach).
does anybody know if this is common or actually what it is doing this is outs so harsh that im starting to hate the car lol. it has done 180k so im axpecting it to be a bit tired but considering the miles it drives 100% perfect,

Might be coming right thro' the bulkhead from the engine bay and would suspect exhaust heat baffle plates.

Its a Citroen. A £300 Citroen at that. Citroen's have rattles.

Sounds like an almost perfect car tbh- you really shouldn't hate it for a wee rattle and 2 cheap jobs when you only paid that for it!
5 years.. 8 cars (2 of which were Xsara's). And now gayyin it up with a Clio!

as phil says, probably some heat shield around the turbo area. might have taken a knock when the cat was replaced.

Might only be £300 car but it was perfect, then randomly started and if i can fix it i will, the rattling can not be heard from under the bonnet or outside, can only here when in the car

Simple answer - have a look ................. you won't get one of those springy snake things in your face if you open the bonnet, you know.

rephrase, fully qualified mechanic, 14 years ecperience, ford main dealer trained..... as i said, sound is NOT from under bonnet, i asked on here to see if anyone had encountered this issue and if they had did they find what it was......i just turn radio up but it happens to be getting on my nearly well formed moobs .......

it does have a plastic engine cover which was what i was hoping it was, but sound can oly be heard in the car

Hi can you feel any vibration through steering wheel or peddle's etc.

nope none at all, it sounds like it is coming from central to left side deep in the dashboard , there is no vibration through gear remote.

:2funny:  In that case, apologies - but you gotta admit that was a real noob question.

To answer the question, I don't believe I've come across similar, but bear in mind, this Forum is generally orientated towards the hatch/coupe rather than the Picasso, so the experience database is nowhere near as wide.

As a well trained mechanic, have you tried hitting the area on the dashboard where the noise is coming from with a considerable force? Are all the bulbs on the dash working- and everything secure?
And have you checked the glovebox cover- that could be loose and vibrating, or something inside the glove box. Or if you have kids something in the footwell container at the back doors which is rattling away inside.

If none of those work, my advice is get a bass box and new speakers, and as previously said turn it up.

I no this may sound daft but it sounds to me like the heat shield fixing has broken which there is a section of right under the centre where say the cubby box is in the centre of dash
