Hi all,

I've been having an intermittent problem with my rear off-side brake dragging. I've replaced the caliper (twice now) and it's a bit better but it's still usually noticeably warmer than the other side and occasionally is very hot to the touch.

I've stripped it down and one pad has worn noticably more worn than the other (think it's the outer). The next port of call is to change the slides but was just wanting to check if anyone has had anything similar?

Obviously could do with this sorted as it's put me off doing a long journey!

Thanks in advance.

The slider pins should have been the first thing you checked, not the last. If the sleeves are full of rusty crud as they often are, then you can't hope to get even braking, as the caliper will be binding to one position.

When in good condition, they should move almost with a fingertip. Get the Citroen service kit for them.

Thanks again.

I called by Citroen and apparently they only do a kit for the front discs. I've heard about these:

which I'll grab and see what difference it makes. It's the first time I've took a look at the brakes myself but when I took a look the other day it took alot more than just fingers to move.

Neat ideas stuff is OK in my book - remember that kit only does one side.

Don't know what your Dealers had been smoking in their little cupboard, but take a gander at Part #14, which I think you'll find matches the above quite nicely.

Make sure you aren't over-tightening the slider bolts, I made that mistake on my ZX when I replaced both rear calipers. I managed to over tighten the bolts and I cause the sliders to bulge, if only slightly, but I spent a very long time trying to work out why my back brakes were binding and I only realized when I removed the rear disc and tried to move the caliper on the sliders, now I don't know if this is due to the fact I used fairly cheap ECP calipers, I know the main caliper bodies were original, but the sliders might have been very cheap and nasty (which wouldn't surprise me from ECP).

I fixed this by using a little loctite and not doing the bolts up quite so tight, for me anyway, problem solved.

'Tis much nicer now I've replaced the clogged fuel filter :)

Thanks, I've ordered the slides and going to have a look this weekend providing they show up.

Will let you know how I get on.

Hi,

Slides showed up yesterday so put them on today. Was a bit fiddly with the rubbers but straightforward enough and it's fixed it, cold to the touch now when the brakes are not used.

Thanks!

Well there's a surprise.

The number of times I've seen complaints about brakes  binding and a large percentage of the time, it's the caliper sliders - no-one ever thinks of them and go off changing everything in sight except the root cause.
