Bally's Xsara Coupe - 1.8 16V - 2000 02
« on: March 09, 2012, 05:55:12 pm »
Hi there,
Long time since I last visited.
I let go of my P306 S16 and bought a Phase I Xsara 1.8 16V "VTS".
Will post pics once I get a chance to take some.
Black, alloys (summer), 150K kms and all the thrills and frills of a VTS bar the power of the RS engine.
Oh, and it has Remus exhaust (to be dumped, I am too old for this growl...)
This one should be less thirsty then the good ol' 306.
Price of petrol is going strong these days :(

Oh yes.
I thought the Phase 2 fuel gauge was crap.
Until I saw how this Phase I gauge works :D
Goes to empty, then to full, without doing anything?
Maybe just the gremlins - don't fancy an unscheduled roadside stop...

Best tip is always refill in big chunks - the fuel calculator doesn't take kindly to dribs & drabs.

When I bought it, it was showing almost empty. Had a quick run here & there, and it was at ~80% full - no refill...
Gave it 20 odd litres, and stayed at ~80%.
Then after like 40 kms it dropped to ~50%...
It should hold out at least till I get the feel for the MPGs I can expect :)
Then I can go by the kilometre counter :)

OK, so first 250 kms done.
To do list:
- front shocks replacement, oil leaking
- PAS sensor O ring - minor oil leak
- driver's side shaft oil seal leaking a bit
- CTS needs replacing, CEL reporting 130C water temp... LOL
- 1-2 bulbs went out, so cluster dark in parts
- 1 H1 foglight bulb to be replaced
- 1 parking ligh replacement
And thats about it...

In the meantime however I got hold of a complete Phase 1 VTS leather interior.
The only thing I'm worried about is the side airbag, as mine didn't have one and I am not sure yet about the cabling being compatible.
Anyway it has heating also :)

Fitted the leathers... not VTS though, only Exclusive, so they are not as "sporty".
Still, they are in better shape than the ones I bought the car with.
Spent 7 hours fiddling with them as the belt restraint cabling was soldered, so the damn things had to be fitted in situ.. and there's not a whole lot of space inside the car, armrest and all...
Luckily the cabling for the side airbag is seperate, so I had no AIRBAG lights after I finished.
Oh yes, one of the seat securing bolts simply could not be wound in enough... don't yet know what I can do with it.

Today I had a go at the squeeking front brakes.
It turned out that the pads where seized almost, so took them out and sanded them a bit.
Took the callipers off and scrubbed them aswell and applied some copper grease. Hope that settles that bit.
As for the seats I bought a longer T40 torx key so that I can apply a bit more force and that solved my problem.
Next? Spring is here so wheel swap time...
