Sparks 1998 Citroen Xsara 1.4
(1/1)
sparks:
Bought the Xsara at the end of January to replace my old Mondeo which had just about had it. Decided to start a journal to show what I have done to the car so far and for any future jobs I do to it.
The first jobs I had to do were replace the fuel rail and injectors. When I bought the car the previous owner had the head gasket replaced but wherever he took the car to have the work done had managed to break part of the fuel rail that holds it secure to the engine which meant the rail was moving about which wrecked the injector seals :(. Only found the problem after driving the car and finding getting a strong smell of petrol part way through my journey :o :o Everything seems fine now the new fuel rail and injectors are fitted though. :)
The other job I did was to replace the original Citroen radio cassette unit with my JVC head unit. :D
The model I have is an KD-LHX551 which will let me play mp3 files on either CD or on SD card. I also chose this model so I can upgrade it with an add on DAB unit as and when I find one for the right price :D
When doing the work on the in car audio I also noticed that the rear speakers were not working at all. I removed the speaker covers on the doors to find that someone had removed the originals at some point. In their place were what looked like a cheap set of portable stereo speakers which weren't wired up properly and were too small for the holes in the door so they had been taped into place. :o :o :o
I have since removed these and replaced them with a set of Ripspeed speakers from Halfords. Ok they might not be the best but they are the right size for the rear doors, they work and sound ok and will keep me going until I get around to upgrading all the speakers in the car as I'm planning on upgrading all the speakers at some point in the future.
Thats it for now. I'll post some more as and when I get around to getting some more jobs done. :)

Got a few more bits and pieces done to the car. Replaced the front brake pads which were getting ready for doing and also replaced the power steering belt as whilst doing the pads it looked ready for replacing.
I also upgraded the headlight and sidelight bulbs to try and improve the look of them not to mention being able to see better whilst driving at night. I fitted a set of LED sidelight bulbs and a set of xenon headlight bulbs which have a blue filter on them to produce a white light rather than the standard yellow/white light look.
