people running decats please advise
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:54:20 am »
hello

im thinking of getting a Decat made up for my phase 2 VTS
im already running a pretty straight throu single longlife exhaust but i cant help thinking that the cat must be restricting it quite a bit also due to lowering my car my cat gets smashed to pieces

so people running decats

did you notice a performance gain by fitting it?
did the exhaust get a lot louder?

personally I wouldn't bother, I felt no gain when I decatted mine, in fact more likely a loss of mid range torque.

and of course its illegal now.

removing it will not give additional ground clearance as they do not sit below the level of the sills in my experience, also running that low will render the beautiful handling of the standard chassis useless and wont be able to use the lovely VTS engine.

might as well shop it for a 1.4.

the cat on my vts sits much, much lower than the sills

also the lowering has made the car handle brilliantly like its on rails with out any body roll

less body roll does not equate to better handling.

if the cat does sit low then its likely to be the wrong one.

Mine has 40mm lowering spax springs 215 40 17's standard torsion bar
That defenetly improved the handling due to no body roll
The standard suspension is good but slightly lowered and wider tires was a great investment

I also have a low ish hanging cat but ive had a 6 cat back systems from stupid quick fit b4 the got me a genuin Citroen centre and rear
I catch the cat slightly on the narrow speed bumps
ph1 vts mmmmmmm

Decat does make a difference to engine response, less so to peak power until you start tuning on the intake side.
If it has an engine - drive it!

sorry this is off topic but do you want some GTI6 torsion bars to stiffen the rear up a bit?  :smiley6600:
