Xsara VTS Track project # FIN

<< < (2/22) > >>

Testor VTS:
I know you said you will not spend on the engine. But if you would ;D :

Are you allowed to use E85? As with proper headwork, aggressive cams (with pocketed pistons), good airbox, exhaust system you could end up in the 210-220hp region. With petrol the max would be around 205-210 if you'r really lucky!!!!

I would use a standalone ECU, and not the original... You can buy VEMS plug and play ECUs for 450-500? and the adjusting limits are far betetr with the original... Also, a simple remap with the original would be around that figure! I know one for sale which came off from a VTS :)

On the track my car a great match for the E36 328i with a few mods, and I was LOADS faster than an E30 325i stripped/caged. Astra cup cars can be quite good, just like Civics.

And as costs are a concern, you could also make a few d.i.y. mods! Like, making solid rear beam mounts:

http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=142768

You can do this with a bit of welding for absolutely no money! But make sure you do this in a jig, so the axle will be aligned right after fitment!

OR if you want to use the Powerflex inserts, do the same with the rear front mounts! Use polyurethane (the stuff they use to stick windows in with) to fill the mounts, making them nearly solid :)

Also, I can help you with cheap remap. It will not be anything close to a proper remap with a standalone ECU, but it would be good to run the engine on E85 for eaxmple, and get a few horses out of the engine! This is done by soldering a socket in the ECU which holds the chip with the injection/ignition maps. So after the socket is installed the chip could be swapped over.

The easiest would be to find a used ECU (immobiliser is not a problem, I can unlock the ECU), send it to me, I would do the socketing, and I would load the map to the chip.
My original ECU was mapped for 300GBP (god damn it how stupid I was...), and has a proper map for an original VTS engine. It gave me around 12hp if I remember correctly (this was measured on a dyno). I would give you that map for free! You would only have to pay for the socket (around 2GBP) and for the work which I would do on mates rates as I love seeing Xsaras around the track :D I would do this lot for 20?....  (including the new map, the socket, the soldering, and even the immo removal)

With this you would have your original ECU, and also a mapped one!

(My old ECU - which has been protuned for RON98 with the file I would give you... -  is sitting here in my room doing nothing, but I don't want to give that away, as once I may go back from the VEMS :)

Additionally, I could send your map to http://www.ecuconnections.com or http://www.chiptuners.org. There are some ethusiast over there who would do a custom map for you for free - so for eaxmple I could load that up to an other chip - or there are even professionals who would also make custom maps, but naturally for that you would have to pay!

Jopeti:
Thanks Testor, nice reply! I am glad to hear that this XU10J4RS engine really has that potential! Luckily VTS's engine doesn't share the same problem with those E36 323i BMW's, we are going to compete against. In 323i the throttlevalve (not sure about real name of it) is too small and it really limits power of those engines. Friend of mine told, that those up tuned BMW's could produce  30hp more if they could use throttlevalve from 325i.

We aren't allowed to use E85. And the rule about engine management is a kind of a mess. You are allowed to change the 'program' but you can't run the engine with totally new gadget. And you can't add any new incomingdata to ECU. That ECU remap you told sounds amazing. I'll start searching for second one, to be able to send it to you during winter.

It's really hard to decide which roll cage to buy. Buying OMP 10-point bolt roll cage and shipping it to Finland costs as much as buying one from some of local roll cage gurus. Bolt on cages are perhaps lighter and easier to install.. but those custom made are for sure safer. These are very cheap. I've tried to contact that company. Unfortunately they won't answer my emails..

Testor VTS:
:)

have a look here for the ECU:

http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showforum.php?id=13

There are loads of guys breaking 306GTIs and Rallyes, and also you could have a look in the for sale section here to se if someone sells an ECU or breaks a VTS :)

It seems like you can't use a new ECU, like a standalone one - I guess this because they want to keep costs low down.

A weld in rollcage is better, as it strengthens the chassis even more - but you can weld in that bolt in cage ;D

Hi, is it possible to chip/remap the 1.8 16v ecu? Thinking of modding the 1.8 in the beast rather than go for a heavy vts/gti engine.....

Cheers Steve.

Sorry to thread hijack :-[
