I only masked the tyre so the black got a good coating of lacquer too. Feels a bit rough so when it has hardened properly, i was wondering if using my clay bar on it would smooth it out?

Can't wait until weekend to do the rest  Wink

Still not received the wheel bolts yet  Angry Going to chase them up as i want them on soon.

Okay, got the wheel bolts, Looking at them i am wondering if they are the correct size, don't want to cause any damage. I have 15mm spacers, well will have when i fit them, the overall length of the bolt is 60mm, the length of the thread is 35mm and they are tapered heads. Does this sound right?

I'd like someone to correct me, but I understood alloy wheels, at least Citroen ones anyway, used a bolt with a flat-faced washer. It's easy enough to tell - what's the shape of the bottom of the hole in the wheel? Flat or angled?

As far as length goes, measure them against your original bolts plus the 15mm spacer thickness. That's what the new bolts should be. A touch longer maybe, but certainly no shorter.

I'm sorry I've forgotten how to work out the number of turns of thread you should have engaged for a particular bolt diameter, but again go back to the original setup and check the number of turns the bolt makes to fully do up. I think you'll find it's 7 or 8.

If you've got too long a bolt you can run into problems of locking up the wheel, but better that than too short and have it drop off.  Shocked

All done Phil, the tapered heads were right to fit the tsw's. I threaded the bolts through the spacer into the hub and they sat nice and flush so i then fit the wheel and re checked.

Wheels on now and hopefully wont fall off  Shocked

Push a standard bolt through the hole in a standard wheel and measure the thread that's showing, now do the same with the other wheels and allow for the spacer. You should have around the same length (as Phil said, better a bit longer than shorter)

See this old thread for some more info.

Brilliant - there it is - about 8 turns. Yes, the original article I found was on XSOC.

if the bolts are too long, they'll bottom out before tightening up against the wheel, resulting in a wobbly wheel, not good. that happened to me when i put VTR alloys on my VTS, so i put another washer on about 1.5mm thick and it solved it.

the engaged length of any bolt should be at least equal to its diameter, can't remember for sure but i think the xsara wheel bolts are M12x1.25 so you need roughly 10 turns, i doubt they will shear off with only 7 or 8 turns anyway, one of those bolts could probably hold the weight of several xsaras on its own  Grin

Cheers for all the info guys  Afro

I measured the old bolts through the old wheels this morning and it was 20mm into the hub. The new wheel bolts have 35mm so taking into account the 15mm spacer, they are effectivly the same as the old bolts. Now i can stop worrying that my wheels will fall off  Afro
